Monday, July 11

Travel day.  On the road at 8:30, leaving our campsite in Germfask, and heading about 50 miles to the south shore of the Upper Peninsula, and to our new campsite in the Hiawatha National Forest on Lake Brevoort, just 15 miles west of St.Ignace.  We stopped a few times along Lake Michigan to take in the views,  and also for a forgettable lunch, before arriving at our campsite.

The campground is beautiful.  We have a view of the lake from our's and each site is heavily wooded and very private.

As soon as we had everything unloaded and set up, we headed into St. Ignace, taking Joni to the hospital; unfortunately her eye has gotten worse.  Her diagnosis remained the same, a blocked tear duct, but the doctor gave her a much stronger oral antibiotic and recommended she continue to apply a hot compress every four hours, which is not easy when you're camping.  If she's not better within 48 hours, he wants to put her an an IV antibiotic, so hopefully that won't be necessary.

After leaving the hospital we bought a few more supplies, walked around the downtown harbor area of St. Ignace which overlooks the Mackinac Straits and Mackinac Island, where we'll be heading tomorrow.

Taking the advice of the nurse that worked on Joni, we had dinner at the Mackinac Grille, and then headed back to our serene campsite.
